Troubleshooting downloading config files with the Cisco Config tool
The pt360 Cisco Config tool uses our TFTP Server tool to download the router/switch config files. The tool displays the status of the download and will display many of the causes of failed downloads.
* Verify whether the credentials being used are valid. The Test button can be used for this purpose. In addition to valid credentials, recall that downloading the config file also depends on a TFTP copy from the router to the computer running pt360. The Test button only validates the credentials and not the TFTP download process.
* Make sure the computer running pt360 can accept TFTP connections from the router in question.
- Check the connection on both ends. On the computer running pt360, make sure the firewall in front of it is not blocking port 69 or the TFTP protocol. Also, check any Windows firewall or client software firewall / security application to make sure that port 69 or TFTP is not being blocked.
- Once this has been established, test whether the Cisco device can TFTP to the computer runing pt360 on port 69. Telnet/SSH to the router/switch. Enter enable mode if necessary. Issue the following command 'copy tftp://server/filename anotherfilename'
* Enable the pt360 Cisco Config tool logging by adding the '/log' switch to the target field of any pt360 PRO Tool Suite shortcut (i.e. "C:\Program Files\PacketTrap Networks\ToolSuite\PacketTrapToolkit.exe" /log). Launch pt360 from this shortcut. Set the timeout value on the tool very high to preclude a timeout error message. Then, run the Cisco Config tool again. The specific Cisco error will appear in your documents. For example, on my Vista system they appear here: C:\Users\jonas\Documents\PacketTrap\LogsCiscoConfig.txt.
Ask your router admins to enable this tftp connection from the router to your computer on port 69 and this will solve the issue.
