Unable to connect to platform due to ovtrcsvc.exe HP Open View logging process
|
|
Applies to:
|
Studio, ptserverservice.exe
|
|
This article identifies the process ovtrcsvc.exe as blocking ptserverservice.exe from binding to port 5053
If upon installing PacketTrap MSP you are unable to connect to the server with the Studio, please follow these steps:
* Launch Task Manager and verify that ptserverservice.exe is running
* From a command prompt, type 'netstat -anop tcp' as shown below:
Active Connections
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID
TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 4
TCP 0.0.0.0:135 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 676
TCP 0.0.0.0:445 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 4
TCP 0.0.0.0:5053 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 1276
TCP 0.0.0.0:5054 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 4
TCP 0.0.0.0:5055 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 4668
* In task manager, processes, select the View menu and select columns
* Note the process id (PID) and check the box
* Check the PID of the process that is listening on port 5053
In the above example PID 1276 happened to be ovtrcsvc.exe. This is is HP Open Views trace log service which binds to port 5053.
In turn, this prevents ptserverservice.exe from binding to port 5053. However, it could have been any other program boundd to 5053.
To fix this end the ovtrcsvc.exe in the task manager. Restart the ptserverservice.exe.
