April 15th, 2008: A Network Management System that Learns!

April 15th, 2008

It’s clear that network management software for the most part doesn’t solve a specific pain point. That is, a collection of tools that helps an IT professional solve a bunch of problems is a nice to have, but not a need to have. For example, IT people need to have backup. They need to have an exchange server, and they need to have a spam firewall of some sort, but network management software usually falls into the category of nice to have.

But what if network management software was a must have. For example, if network management software predicted events before they occurred, then potentially it rises to the level of must have. That is, if your exchange server is running hot, of course we could fire off an alert. But that’s more nice to have again. But what if the network management software could build a operational network discovery baseline of your environment, then alerted you based on deviations from that baseline? Then we are getting close to need to have. What if the network management software was smart enough to learn the expected behaviors on your network, and then alerted based on those behaviors? Matt Bolton, our VP of Products, thinks it’s possible to build that type of software. In fact, he’s working on it now.

Something tells me you’ll want to check out our enterprise network management platform that will debut this summer.
